Today, we will discuss how to install LED display. As you may know, LED display installation will have effect on the final displaying performance of LED display, and also will influence the operation. If mistakes happen on installation, there may be hidden trouble in the future.
In this article, we will give you detailed guidance on how to install LED screen in a simple manner. I believe if you can follow the steps, you can install your screen quickly and precisely!
1. Two Kinds of Installation Methods
There are two common installation methods including LED cabinet installation and LED module + frame installation.
1.1 LED Cabinet Installation
The former one has higher integrity and is more friendly to operators as it will integrate LED display module, power supply, and other components into the cabinet. And the operators only need to assemble the LED cabinets directly so that the whole process can be simplified.
Advantages:
1. Easy operation, user-friendly;
2. Can protect inner components;
3. The whole structure is stable.
Disadvantages:
Higher price, needing more budgets.
1.2 LED Display Module + Frame Installation
This installation method needs people to install frames, power supply, LED receiving card and sending card all by themselves. Different from LED cabinet installation, which method has already assembled these components into the cabinet before being delivered to buyers, this way requires more labor and professional knowledge.
Advantages:
Higher cost-efficiency, low cost can save more budgets
Disadvantages:
1. More labors and energy-consuming requirements;
2. The flatness may be affected when the final LED screen is large.
Now, we will discuss how to achieve installation by only LED display modules but not LED cabinets.
2. How to Install LED Display by LED Display Modules?
Here, we will use indoor LED display installation as the example.
Step 1: Calculate the Size
(1) The LED display size can be calculated as:
Height = LED module height * numbers of LED modules in vertical
Width = LED module width * number of LED modules in horizontal
For example, if the module size is 320*160mm, and there are 15 modules in horizontal and 12 modules in vertical, then LED display size is:
Width: 320*15=4800mm
Height: 160*12=1920mm
(2) The final size of the whole frame should be:
There should be stainless steel flat sides and seam between modules and frame. Presume the width of flat sides is 2mm, and the width of the seam is around 5-8mm. Thus, the final size of the whole frame should be:
Width: 4800mm + 10mm = 4810mm
Height: 1920mm + 10mm = 1930mm
Step 2: Make the Frame
4 pcs 4x4cm rectangle tubes and 2pcs 2x2cm rectangle tubes, 6 meters long.
First, use 4*4cm rectangle tubes to make a square frame (can be customized according to your own situation), the size of the large frame is 4810mm*1930mm.
After the large frame is finished, welding 2*2cm rectangle tubes in the large frame. The size of the small rectangle tubes is 4800mm*1920mm.
Second, start welding the strip to fix the module. We need to measure the length of the strip according to the size of the module, the fixing bar is welded to the small frame.
After you finish welding the entire frame, use two angle steel hooks to fix the frame on the top of the wall.
Step 3: Assemble Power Supply, LED Control Card
There should be around 10mm room behind the bracket to versatile because fans can not be assembled for indoor LED displays generally.
A.Then we will assemble power supplies.
First, we need to connect 5V power cables, and be careful to confirm positive and negative poles otherwise cables, LED modules, and control cards maybe burn out.
For power supply with parameters of 5V, 40A, and 220W, we recommend that can carry 4Pcs LED modules, and for power supply with specifications of 5V, 60A and 300W, it can carry 6-8Pcs LED screen modules.
The voltage of connecting cable between power supplies should be 220V.
Use 2.5 square soft copper wire to string each row together, and finally, a set of 220V power wires are connected to the air switch terminal of the distribution cabinet.
Then use the fixing strip and the fixing plate (with screws) to fix the power supply on the frame.
Please pay attention to anti-static during the installation of the power supply, and the cables should be installed firmly.
B.After assembling of power supply, we need to install LED control cards. You can install them according to the design papers manufacturers provide to you.
C.Connecting LED Receiving Cards with Modules
The receiving card is also connected with the data cable before installing the structure. And then use screws or fixing plates to fix the receiving card into the frame.
Please power up receiving cards before assembling the structure. Also, be careful when distinguishing positive and negative poles.
And then, we will use network cables to connect control cards by sequences. The network port near the power supply is the input port, and the output port of the first card should be connected with the input port of the second card.
D.Cover the edge with stainless steel
Here because the screen’s size is not large, we installed the stainless steel edging in advance, and sometimes we can also install the stainless steel edging after the screen is installed, but it should be noted that the bottom frame must be done well, must be parallel to the ground.
Step 4: Install LED Display Screen Modules
The sequence should be from the bottom to the top, and from the middle to the two sides. That is because, if we install the modules from bottom, then it is easier for us to control the error of vertical and horizontal degree. This is especially important for fine pixel LED display as it put forward higher requirements for accuracy.
It is recommended to install from the bottom to the top and from the middle to the two sides. Installing module from the bottom is mainly to make the horizontal and verticality of the led display could be control in a normal range, especially for large-size display.
If you don’t pay attention, the flatness of the screen may be uneven. The requirement for Small HD led screen is higher, not allow any little gap. The modules on the upper, lower, left, and right sides should be all tightly fitted on the same horizontal plane without any gaps.
Moreover, if we can install the LED modules from middle to two sides, we can save labor time as the team can start to work simultaneously from two directions.
It is highlighted that you should use the flat cables according to the drawing. Generally speaking, short flat cables can be used to connect LED modules, and long flat cables should be used based on specific requirements. For instance, flat cables on the top or on the bottom should be the longest.
Step 5: Configuration
After installing four modules and one receiving card, you can start to test them by powering on, and then continuing the installation. You should do this to avoid unnecessary operations cause if you have already finished the installation, and find some problems, you will have to disassemble LED modules that have already been installed.
There is a test button on the control card. When power on, you can press the button to test. If the installation is correct, the LED screen will display red, green, blue, line, field and point information in turn.
After that, please use controlled computer to test again and to examine whether network cables are working normally. Please insist on this procedure until the whole testing completed.
3. Some Attentions for LED Display Installation
3.1 Before, During and After Installation
Here we will give you some advice for LED screen installation no matter you are before the installation or after the installation.
A.Calculate the right number of LED display modules, and prepare other components such as receiving cards and power supply according to rations.
B.Avoid collision of the corner. Protect LED cabinets and LED display modules from collision and bump as LED display lamps are easy to be damaged.
C.Connection of power cables and signal cables.
When connecting them, you can choose to connect them through a mounting hole to ensure an aesthetic appearance.
D.Ensure tight connection of different cabinets.
Please pay attention to the tight connection between LED display cabinets. Whether the connection is accurate will have a huge impact on the final impact including flatness and safety.
E.Use reliable supporting equipment.
The weight capacity, strength, and stability of the supporting equipment will have a strong impact on the safety of the rental LED screen displays.
The supporting equipment should be strong and reliable enough to support the weight of displays, and the structure should be reasonable cause safety is always the principal factor of development.
F.Labor Preparation and training.
There will be staff for installation and for operation. Please ensure that they have basic trainees about the screen to install and run them in an appropriate way.
3.2 LED Display Waterproof Treatment
The entrance of water and moisture may cause serious damages to the inner components of LED display. Here are some attentions for you to prevent your screens from moisture and water during installation.
1. Assemble backplate and sealant
There should be backplate and sealant, especially for outdoor LED display. Otherwise, there will be dangers for inner electronic components in long term.
Once water enters, it may cause the whole lines to burn out. So it is important for you to prevent such problem in advance.
2. Leaking hole
Sometimes, the backboard will attach If there is no leaking hole on the bottom of LED display, water will gather, which will shorten the service life of the screen.
3. Turn off screen before rainfall
If there is weather forecast predicting rainstorm or thunderstorm, please turn off the screen in advance.
After rain days, please check whether there is leaking in the screen. If yes, use air blower to dry it to protect moisture and water entering.
3.3 Moisture and Storage
1. The temperature requirements of storage: -40℃≤t≤60℃; and after opening the package, the LED products shall be stored when temperature <30℃ and humidity <60%.
2. If your LED displays have already powered off for many days, the recommended method is to bring up the brightness from a low gray level which can heat the LED boards gradually. There are steps below:
